Bracebridge Hall
The original 25,000 square feet of this majestic home was
designed by New York architect David Easton and constructed by
dedicated local artisans in 1990. Early in 1995, the home was
expanded by an additional 13,000 square feet while absolutely
maintaining the home’s architectural integrity and design.
The columned center of the original section is 52 feet long with a
12 foot ceiling, marble floors, mahogany “bookend” doors, and
“old world” detailing in the extensive moldings and other
impressive woodworking. The center hall is flanked in the main
body of the home by a 50 x 30 foot living room with lovely views of
the Sasafrass River.
Through the living room a carved hallway with a slate floor leads
to the west wing, housing guest suites with both a private
entrance and parking area. Proceeding along the west wing is a
grand library with fireplace, random-width oak flooring, and
French doors and windows, allowing wonderful views over the
south lawn to the water.
A master chef’s dream, the kitchen, with every conceivable
appliance available to prepare international cuisine. Adjacent
to the kitchen are a butler’s pantry, eating area for staff, office,
mudroom, powder room, and hallway to the five-car garage. Also
on the first floor are coat and powder rooms off the center hall as
well as an elevator to both the lower level and the second and
third floor.
The elegant master bedroom suite includes a fireplace, his-and-
hers luxury baths, expansive walk-in closets, marble floors, and
Jacuzzi tub. The second floor features additional suites, staff
quarters, and a recreation room, again with access to the
elevator.
The “Main Room” of the 13,000 square foot addition is a round
room 48 feet in diameter with a 16 foot domed ceiling and lots of
glass offering views of the south lawn and water. Here one can
also access a large wraparound slate veranda ideal for outdoor
dining or lavishly entertaining guests.
The barn complex features a large, well-designed and
constructed 10-bay equipment shed and heated workshops.
Additionally, there is a large temperature controlled car barn in
the paved courtyard buildings. There is an office for the farm
manager as well as support staff. The farm also includes two
twin-story frame Williamsburg Colonial style tenant homes, a
two acre pond and a wonderful new boat dock with
approximately 4-5 feet at low tide.
Bracebridge Estate is nestled on a graceful picturesque rise above
calm waters, but quickly leads to the Chesapeake Bay and inter-
coastal waterways. Located conveniently between Wilmington,
Delaware, Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and
Easton/St. Michael’s makes this work of architecture a very
versatile, yet unique property, one of the finest real estate
offerings on the U.S. market today.
