Recovery in Community Renovation Project
|
WJS&A is currently working with Recovery in Community
(RIC), as well as Baltimore City Healthy Start, to construct a
capital campaign in order to facilitate the renovation of a
6,000 sq. ft. property located at 1847 West Lexington Street.
The project will include the complete renovation of a
three-story building that will serve as transitional, long-term
housing for twelve women and one live-in manager. It will
also include the renovation of a 1,000 sq. ft. space to be used as
administrative offices for RIC.
WJS&A Inc. is committed to the completion of the project in
conjunction with the wishes of RIC as well as the surrounding
community members. We are striving to implement practical
design goals for this project; ones that can be readily obtained
through capital and private funding. In this project, WJS&A
Inc. will assist in all the various phases, from overseeing the
demolition of the proposed facility to the management and
implementation of the actual design plan.
Recovery in Community is a community based program,
originally conceived in response to a 1996 mayoral request to
expand the city's ability to provide substance abuse treatment.
The initial program design was developed by the Abell
Foundation with community leaders from Southwest
Baltimore, in collaboration with Baltimore City Healthy Start
(BCHS), a non-profit corporation created by the Baltimore
City Health Department. BCHS implemented the program and
has oversight of RIC, with the Foundation providing full
funding for the start-up phase and first three years of
operations.
